Jong Sook P. Nee is a member of the law firm of McManimon & Scotland, L.L.C. Ms. Nee’s practice focuses on redevelopment planning, commercial and land use transactions, public and private activity bonds, municipal law and corporate law.
In 2008, Ms. Nee served as Policy Counsel to Governor Jon S. Corzine. While in the Governor’s Office, Ms. Nee counseled the Governor on policy relating to housing, land use, healthcare reform, crime prevention and prisoner re-entry programs. Ms. Nee also worked closely with the Legislature, the Executive Departments and constituents to help implement Statewide policies, including the Governor’s Economic Assistance and Recovery Plan, reforms to the Fair Housing Act of 1985, coordination of mortgage protection programs, reforms to the State Healthcare system and the creation of a Healthcare Stabilization Fund to assist hospitals.
In 2002, Ms. Nee served as the Legal Advisor to Commissioner Susan Bass Levin, of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. Ms. Nee reviewed and consulted with the Commissioner and staff on policy issues relating to New Jersey’s Smart Growth Planning Initiative, Camden Redevelopment, Asbury Park Redevelopment and New Jersey Meadowlands Commission Redevelopment. In furtherance of her work with the Department, Ms. Nee worked closely with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition, New Jersey Redevelopment Authority and the Council on Affordable Housing.
In 2009, Ms. Nee returned to private practice with the firm and continues to work extensively in developing and implementing commercial and municipal development projects for public and private entities. Ms. Nee’s work includes advising clients on effective methods to utilize available State and federal programs and funding relating to, among other things, redevelopment, brownfield remediation, clean energy programs, privatization of municipal services and affordable housing.
Ms. Nee received her Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, in May of 1998 from the University of Illinois College of Law, and her undergraduate degree in psychology, with honors, in December of 1993 from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. She was admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois in 1998 and in New Jersey in 2000. Ms. Nee is currently involved in various professional organizations, including the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Asian Pacific America Lawyers Association of New Jersey.
Prior to joining McManimon & Scotland, L.L.C. in July of 2000, Ms. Nee worked as an associate with the Law Offices of Chapman and Cutler in Chicago, Illinois, working on syndicated, commercial lending transactions.
